ABOUT ME
Nathan Bussard is a multi-disciplinary artist currently based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His work explores the intricate truth about human nature and illuminate its beautiful and grotesque complexities through painting, printmaking, and sculptural ceramics. Highlighting the the intersections of life, belief, thought, nature, and experience, his work seeks to challenges perspectives and call attention to the many aspects of what being human is. He seeks to create an uneasy feeling within the viewer that pushes them to question themselves and the world around them He desires to express the complex and powerful force that is humanity and our nature. He shows the darkness and the light, the joy and the pain, the hurt and the healing, the imprisonment and the freedom of it all. Nathan wants to use art and creativity to leave this world and the people in it better than how he found it.
Nathan is also a functional ceramic artist. His function work focuses on utility, duratbilty, confortambilty and good design. Like his conceptual work, he draws inspiration from nature and the world around him, but channels that into a functional capacity. His work traditionally uses neutral or few selectively colors in tone, but ranges from mid to high fire. He blends the earthy influences of an unglazed edge or bottom with the high design of crisp edges and clean lines to bring both design and nature into harmony.
